Grant Park 2019

Someone summed up Grant Park saying “That was some epic stuff.” Indeed, it was! Grant Park is always one of the largest Bike Law Georgia Cyclocross Series p/b Perimeter Roofing races. Local shops and teams set up tents and spend the day partying, cheering, and racing. The weather guessers were correct with the forecast with cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s with a nice breeze. Racers enjoyed a fast course with a long climb at the end. Spectators in the party zone were able to see the racers run or try to bunny hop the barriers and zig zag their way across the hill. Racers often had the choice to keep racing to stop for some frosty refreshment or (donut holes for the Juniors) during the day’s later races.

In the Women’s 1/2/3 several regular Georgia Cyclocross racers returned after their absence at the series opener at Old Grey Barn. Within the first lap United Health Care/706P teammates Mackenzie Myatt and Judah Sencenbaugh put the hurt on last week’s winner Molly Russell-Holmes (Loose Nuts) and Abby Hobbs (Bike Fetish Devo). Makenzie pulled away from the main group on lap two and held the gap for the win. Judah kept the chasers in check with a second place for her efforts. Molly rounded out the podium in third.

With a fast course, the Men’s 1/2 kept the front half of the field together for the first couple of laps. Eventually a small group got away with Jacob Morales (JM Racing p/b Scott) holding a small advantage over Nick Van Winkle (Specialized-BMW) Bradford Perley (Brevard College), Artur Sagat (Team United Healthcare Georgia/706P), and Simon Lewis (Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association). Despite several challenges for the lead, Jacob went on to win the race. Nick was 2nd, and Bradford was 3rd.
